This book is absolutely gorgeous. It's hardcovered and the pages are nice and thick. We're giving this to our 6-year old for Christmas and she is going to love it. She has a similar book about sharks that is paperback and all torn up, but she still adores that book because she loves learning. She can't read most of the words on her own yet, but she will pick a page or just a section of a page and we'll read that and talk about it. Each page is packed full of information, but there are many pictuers and illustrations to keep younger children interested. If you've got a child who loves learning about animals, then by all means purchase this book! But don't expect it to be dumbed down for children. It truly is scientific and informational enough for me to learn as well. You can't go wrong with this book.
The book is well written and has lots of bright pictures and holds the interest of children. My eight year loves to just spend hours reading through it.

Beautiful book with detailed descriptions about animals and their species groups. I bought this for my daughter the pictures keep her attention though the reading level is a bit much for her yet. A book to read over and over.
This is a nice enough book and it is okay for preschool and kindergarteners, but it is NOT the same as the Master Books' "The World of Animals." If you followed the link that assured you that this is merely the paperback edition of the other book, you will be in for a rude shock. The other is highly detailed and hundreds of pages. This is very thin and very UN-detailed. I don't know why they have the two books linked, but they are completely unrelated. Hope you don't make the same mistake I did.
I bought this book to replace the one my dog chewed up. The old one was a pocket book and so when when this one came I wasn't expecting it to be so large. This book is as beautiful and filled with great on the inside as the cover is and eludes to. Great buy for anyone who loves or wants to know more about animals.
